Ingredients
- All-purpose flour: 1 3/4 cups
- Baking soda: 1 teaspoon
- Salt: 1/2 teaspoon
- Unsalted butter, softened: 1/2 cup (1 stick)
- Brown sugar, packed: 3/4 cup
- Granulated sugar: 1/2 cup
- Large egg: 1
- Vanilla extract: 1 teaspoon
- Chocolate chips: 1 cup
- Caramel bits: 1 cup
Instructions
- Step 1: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch baking pan.
- Step 2: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
- Step 3: In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined.
- Step 4: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix. Stir in the chocolate chips and caramel bits.
- Step 5: Spread the dough evenly into the prepared baking pan.
- Step 6: Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs. Let cool completely in the pan before cutting into bars.
Notes
- Store leftover bars in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days to keep them soft and chewy.
- For a warm, gooey treat, microwave individual bars for 10-15 seconds before serving.
- Serve these bars slightly warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for an extra decadent dessert.
- Chef's tip: Gently press some extra chocolate chips and caramel bits onto the top of the dough before baking for a more visually appealing and flavorful result.
