Ingredients
- All-purpose flour: 2 cups
- Unsalted butter, softened: 1 cup (2 sticks)
- Brown sugar, packed: 1 cup
- Instant coffee granules: 2 tablespoons
- Vanilla extract: 1 teaspoon
- Chopped walnuts: 1/2 cup
- Powdered sugar: 1 cup
- Milk: 2-3 tablespoons
Instructions
- Step 1: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch baking pan.
- Step 2: In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Stir in the vanilla extract and instant coffee granules.
- Step 3: Gradually add the flour to the butter mixture, mixing until just combined. Stir in the chopped walnuts.
- Step 4: Press the dough evenly into the prepared baking pan.
- Step 5: Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden. Let cool completely in the pan.
- Step 6: In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar and milk until smooth and creamy. Frost the cooled slice. Cut into squares and serve.
Notes
- Store leftover coffee slice in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days to maintain its texture.
- A brief chill in the fridge can firm up the frosting if you prefer a cleaner cut.
- Serve these squares with a dollop of whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream to complement the coffee flavor.
- For a richer coffee flavor, dissolve the instant coffee in a teaspoon of hot water before adding it to the butter mixture.
