Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup (2 sticks) butter, softened
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
- 1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts
- 1 (12 ounce) package semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
Instructions
- Step 1: Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking pan.
- Step 2: In a medium bowl, cream together the butter and brown sugar until smooth. Gradually add the flour and salt, mixing until well blended and crumbly. Press the mixture into the prepared pan.
- Step 3: Bake in preheated oven for 20 minutes, or until lightly golden.
- Step 4: Remove from oven and immediately pour sweetened condensed milk evenly over the baked crust. Sprinkle with chocolate chips and nuts.
- Step 5: Return to oven and bake for another 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Step 6: Let cool completely before cutting into bars.
Notes
- Store these decadent bars in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days, or in the refrigerator for longer freshness.
- A quick zap in the microwave for 10-15 seconds will make the chocolate chips melty and gooey again, if you desire a warm treat.
- Cut into small squares; these bars are rich, so a little goes a long way, especially when served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
- For easier cutting, chill the bars completely and use a warm knife; the cold helps the bars hold their shape, and the warmth prevents sticking.
