Ingredients
- Croissants (day-old preferred) – 6 large
- Chocolate chips – 1 cup
- Eggs – 6 large
- Milk – 1 1/2 cups
- Granulated sugar – 1/4 cup
- Vanilla extract – 1 teaspoon
- Butter – 2 tablespoons, melted
- Powdered sugar – for dusting (optional)
Instructions
- Step 1: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
- Step 2: Cut the croissants into roughly 1-inch pieces. Place the croissant pieces in the prepared baking dish and sprinkle evenly with chocolate chips.
- Step 3: In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, granulated sugar, and vanilla extract until well combined.
- Step 4: Pour the egg mixture evenly over the croissants and chocolate chips in the baking dish. Gently press down on the croissants to ensure they are submerged in the liquid.
- Step 5: Drizzle the melted butter over the top of the croissant mixture.
- Step 6: Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the egg mixture is set. Let cool slightly before dusting with powdered sugar (if desired) and serving.
Notes
- Store leftovers, tightly covered, in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
- For a warm and gooey treat, reheat individual portions in the microwave in 30-second intervals.
- Serve with a dollop of whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream for extra indulgence.
- Using day-old croissants helps prevent a soggy bake, allowing them to better absorb the custard.
