Ingredients
Scale
- 6–8 medium apples, peeled and sliced
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 1 cup rolled oats
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) cold unsalted butter, cut into cubes
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
Instructions
- Step 1: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
- Step 2: In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples. Arrange the apples evenly in the prepared baking dish.
- Step 3: In a separate bowl, combine the flour, brown sugar, oats, cinnamon, baking powder, and salt.
- Step 4: Cut in the cold butter using a pastry blender or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Step 5: Sprinkle the crumb mixture evenly over the apples.
- Step 6: Bake for 30-40 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender. Let cool slightly before serving.
Notes
- Store leftover apple crisp, covered, in the refrigerator for up to 3 days to maintain the apple's texture.
- For warm, gooey goodness, reheat individual portions in the microwave for 30 seconds or until heated through.
- A scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream perfectly complements the warm, spiced apple crisp.
- Use a fork to cut the cold butter into the dry ingredients; this keeps the butter cold for extra flaky crisp topping.
