Ingredients
Scale
- Chicken tenders: 1 pound
- Buns (Brioche or Potato): 4
- Pimento Cheese: 1 cup
- Bacon: 4 slices, cooked and crumbled
- Lettuce: 4 leaves, washed
- Hot Sauce: 2 tablespoons
- Pickled green tomatoes (optional): 1/2 cup, sliced
Instructions
- Step 1: Cook chicken tenders. You can bake, pan-fry, or deep-fry them until golden brown and cooked through. If baking, preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and bake for 20-25 minutes.
- Step 2: While chicken is cooking, prepare the pimento cheese. If using store-bought, set aside. If making homemade, prepare according to your preferred recipe.
- Step 3: Once chicken tenders are cooked, drizzle them generously with hot sauce.
- Step 4: Spread pimento cheese on the top and bottom buns.
- Step 5: Assemble the sandwiches: Place lettuce leaf on the bottom bun, followed by the hot sauce-covered chicken tenders.
- Step 6: Top with crumbled bacon and optional pickled green tomatoes before placing the top bun. Serve immediately.
Notes
- To keep your Bird Dog buns from getting soggy, store the pimento cheese separately from the cooked chicken and assemble just before serving.
- For a quick reheat, warm the chicken tenders in an air fryer or oven to maintain their crispness before assembling your sandwich.
- Serve these sandwiches with crispy sweet potato fries and a side of coleslaw for a true Southern experience.
- Don't be shy with the hot sauce—it cuts through the richness of the pimento cheese and bacon for a perfectly balanced bite!
